How It Works

The Formula

Years to double = 72 ÷ r

r = annual rate as a percentage

Worked Example

8% annual return

  1. 1Years = 72 ÷ 8
  2. 2Years = 9

Result: ≈ 9 years to double

Pro Tip

Rule of 115 estimates tripling time: 115 ÷ rate.
